It’s that time of year again when that one champagne toast turns into way to many! Here at the Phat Vegan we have come up with a short list for you to be prepared!

Remember, it’s important that you eat before drinking to slow the absorption of alcohol and to reduce the irritation that it causes to the stomach. Include healthy fats such as an olive oil dressing to slow absorption of alcohol, thereby slowing the work for your liver.

Coconut Water

Coconut water is naturally packed  full of electrolytes and minerals also. It contains all five essential electrolytes and is a great choice for replenishing electrolytes after an intense night on the town . An 11oz serving contains more potassium than a banana and 15 times potassium than an average sports drink. Make sure you read the ingredients! There could be sugars that have been added to the product, especially if the coconut water is listed as flavored. It’s therefore a must to choose coconut water that is as natural as possible. We recommend  Taste Nirvana.  No concentrates or additives in this brand, and their young coconuts are sustainably grown, harvested and organic (though not labeled as such). Caffeine

While living it up and consuming all that alcohol, “acetate” is being released into your body, which is what gives you that hangover headache.  If you wish to resist this menace get caffeine  into your system stat, along with an anti-inflammatory (like a teaspoonful of turmeric, extra virgin olive oil, blueberries, or ginger).  We recommend Nitro Cold Brew New Orleans.

Tofu Scrambled Breakfast Tacos

Did someone say breakfast tacos! It makes me feel so good to add this to the list, as breakfast tacos are staple in my diet (as every other Austinite).  Tofu, red peppers, and onions contain cysteine, an amino acids that helps break down alcohol. Miso soup

If your stomach is the true victim here, miso soup is fermented with good bacteria that’ll help regulate your tummy and—as an added bonus—rehydrate you at the same time. Note: Just make sure it’s vegan. Many miso soups use fish sauce or chicken broth. We recommend this awesome recipe from Simply Vegan
